Petersen Motorsports/ White Lightning Racing is the founding
team partner of the American Le Mans Series Grid Kids program.
As such, the team hosts a group of children and young adults
from local Salvation Army programs at the track each race
weekend. The team also participates in a number of other activities
with the Salvation Army including fund raising programs. In
an effort to help support the development of today’s
youth, the American Le Mans Series teamed with The Salvation
Army, the official charity of the Series, to form a national
Grid Kids program in October 2005. Described as providing
a once-in-a-lifetime event for some, a facet of the program
involves giving children who participate in activities at
The Salvation Army centers VIP treatment at Series events.
Outside of receiving an autograph session and visit with Series
drivers, Grid Kids participants are also given an up close
look at some of the Series race cars.
